An exhibition exploring the theme of collapse - seen through the prism of geological phenomena, movement, gravity, the destruction of architecture, and human emotional states. All elements appearing in the exhibition refer to loss of balance, the inevitability of collapse/decline, and changeability - both in the natural environment and in human life.
The idea for the project was inspired by selected motifs related to Javanese culture and tradition, as well as broader reflections on transformation. The sculptures and installation refer directly to the ruins of the ancient Buddhist-Hindu temple of Ratu Boko in Yogyakarta (Indonesia). The symbolic transfer of a fragment of the ruins to an art gallery outlined the framework for the entire project, rooted in over a year of research work that I conducted in Indonesia.
The exhibition included, among others: a sculpture with Uroboros - a symbol of eternity and rebirth; drawings depicting various changes in the shape of the earth (geomorphology); and the experimental film Tendency to Collapse, a metaphorical tale of change rooted in nature and the traditions and culture of Java. In the film, ancient stories are combined with traditional dance and martial arts.
